Since 1985, Sheila Wheeler has pioneered the field of telephone triage. In 1994, Ms. Wheeler founded the first national telehealth conference "Telephone Triage: Essentials for Expert Practice. She is the author of the classic training manual “Telephone Triage: Theory, Practice, and Protocol Development” and The first age-based set of protocols “Telephone Triage Protocols for Adult and Pediatric Populations. Ms Wheeler writes for numerous nursing journals, and lectures internationally. A nurse legal consultant in telephone triage, she currently serves as a front-line telephone triage practitioner in an HMO call center in the San Francisco area while consulting on a broad range of telehealth projects. Ms. Wheeler is currently the President of TeleTriage Systems, a consulting firm focused on Quality Improvement, Risk Reduction and Education for the telehealth industry and professionals.
